New role for MCA service centres
MCA service centres in Selangor will be converted into community development centres to make the party more people-oriented.
Selangor MCA chairman Datuk Ong Tee Keat said that the conversion, to be done in stages, would allow grassroots leaders to get closer to the people.
New role soon: A file picture of the Subang Jaya MCA service centre preparing for the general election in March. In the picture is former Subang Jaya assemblyman Datuk Lee Hwa Beng (third from right). Every constituency has a service centre. We are auditing the centres now, to know what they have and what they need.
We must look at each constituencys local agenda, as well as take stock of our strengths and weaknesses as well as community issues, he said after chairing his first state party committee meeting at Wisma MCA, Kuala Lumpur.
He said the meeting agreed that the way forward for the party in the state was to focus on human capital development, urban poverty, rural socio-economy and current issues.
In rural areas, we will focus on agriculture and fisheries, he said.
Ong said the Selangor MCA would play a constructive role as the opposition in the state.
We are not going to stop at mere criticism. We need to project a different image to the previous opposition parties, he said.
Ong said the party would monitor the promises and pledges made by the Pakatan Rakyat government, and the implementation of policies, especially those at the local council level.
Meanwhile, Ong said Selangor MCA would pledge RM5,000 each for the earthquake victims in China and the cyclone victims in Myanmar.
