Local Hashers having fun at World Interhash Run
Story & Picture By ANN HASLAM
SIXTEEN Hash House Harriers from Sungai Petani were among the 400 Malaysian Hashers who participated in the three-day World Interhash Run in Perth, Australia, recently.
The event kicked off with the Red Dress Run charity event held to raise funds for the Motor Neurone Research and Princess Margaret Hos-pital in Perth.

South of Perth Hash Club member and organiser V. Rama Rao, 45, from South of Perth, Australia, said it took a year to plan the event as it involved a large group of runners and many trails to be covered.
He said the trails ranged from a short 5km walkers’ track to an adventurous 25km challenge.
Rama, a founding member of the Manjung Hash in Perak, said the event helped establish a bond among Hashers worldwide.
Veteran Hashman Darshan Singh, in his 60s, who was among the Sungai Petani Hazards Hash Club members said a kneecap replacement last year was not a deterrent for him to join the Interhash in Perth.
“We have friends in all parts of the world and it is great to meet old friends at the international events,” he said.
Hash is popular in Malaysia because it originated here at the Selangor Club in 1938.
The Perth Hash Club was the first outside of Singapore and Malaysia to be set up in 1967.
The next Interhash Run would be held in Kuching, Sarawak.
