Abolish JKKKP system, urges Kedah Govt

THE Kedah Government wants the Federal Village Development and Security Committee (JKKKP) system to be abolished.

State Rural Development, Works and Agriculture committee chairman Phahrolrazi Zawawi said JKKKP was redundant as the state was implementing the village head system that should be up and running by July.

“We feel that it is not constructive to split the administration system at the village level.

“It is counter productive and would only confuse the people as they would not know who to com-plain to in the event of emer-gency,” he said.

JKKKP was previously known as JKKK when it was under the purview of the respective district offices.

After Pakatan Rakyat took over, state Barisan Nasional liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid arranged for JKKK to be under the jurisdiction of the State Local Government and Housing Ministry and renamed it JKKKP.

Phahrolrazi said it was not practical to split the administrative system into two.

“We want the JKKKP system to be abolished,” he said.

Mentri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak had said they were only reviving the village head system that was implemented before the JKKK.

Of the 136 penghulu posts in Kedah, 27 had yet to be filled.

Phahrolrazi said more than 2,000 village heads would be appointed.

“We will appoint people who are well-respected in the village as the heads.

“We are not appointing people based on their political inclinations. What is important is for the villagers to have people whom they respect and honour ,” he said.
