Live deejaying at Komtar
By LOOI SUE-CHERN
DRIVING home after work was a little different for Penangites yesterday evening, especially if they were listening to Red Fm.
For the first time, they may be closer to their favourite ‘evening drive home’ deejays than ever.
Broadcasting live from a red-coloured outdoor studio at Komtar’s pedestrian mall, the station’s Red Evening Drive deejays JD and Dilly entertained listeners around the country from 4pm to 8pm.
The outdoor broadcast and its blasting music was an attraction at the usually quiet location. Although most people were still busy with their work and errands, some actually stopped and spent a few seconds peering through the make-shift studio’s glass to check out the deejays in action.
Programme Manager Tim Ho said the station had planned to have a live broadcast outside its Kuala Lumpur studio and had asked listeners to vote for a suitable venue.
“Many of our listeners are from Penangites. So Komtar got the most votes.
“This is not the first time we have broadcasted outside our studio, but it is the first for JD and Dilly,” he said.
Deejay JD said broadcasting live from an outdoor studio was different, as it gave them the chance to see the sunlight and watch the traffic while they worked.
For deejay Dilly, the new expe-rience was intimidating but exciting at the same time.
“In a normal studio, JD and I can do everything on our own. Out here, everything is more hectic and we need help,” she said.
The dynamic duo were thrilled to be in Penang and said they were looking forward to try the famous Penang hawker delights like assam laksa.
“I lived here during my college days. I am looking forward to see how Penang has changed and to 'catch up' with the food here,” said JD.
Red Fm marketing communication executive Cindy Tey said the outdoor broadcasting was a good way for listeners to get to know the deejays and the station.
JD and Dilly also met up with listeners at Gurney Drive and played games with them.
They will be interviewing Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng on his 100 days in office at his Komtar office this afternoon. The interview will be available on The Star Online.
Mandarin station 988 will also be interviewing Lim live in the outdoor studio this afternoon.
