Fund to be set up for the Woos Money collected will be used for children’s education

A FUND will be set up to enable the public to channel donations to help coffeeshop helper Woo Kwee Fatt and his wife Ely Woo in Penang who are facing financial problems in raising their month-old triplets Yen Fung, Yu Fook and Yu Hock and two other children Yu Beng and Yu Choy.

The Pengkalan Kota Service Task Force is spearheading the move as it will ensure transparency in the handling of the funds.

“The money collected will be used to finance the children’s education,” said the area’s community service chairman Lee Thuan Chye.

He said they planned to invite a representative of the company managing the flats at Gat Lebuh Macallum where the Woos are staying to be a trustee of the fund.

“We also want to rope in the chairmen of the residents’ associations of the eight blocks there to be trustees as well,” he said after visiting the family at their rented flat recently.

Thuan Chye said the family had received RM2,560 in donations excluding financial pledges from certain parties after their plight was highlighted in the press.

Meanwhile, a person who wished to remain anonymous donated a second-hand washing machine to the family.

It was a pleasant surprise for the Woos who are currently using an old washing machine which breaks down frequently.

Expressing her gratitude, Ely said the washing machine would solve her laundry problem.

“My old washing machine emits a loud noise every time when in use. Since I have triplets now, I was worried that it might not be able to cope with the bigger load,” she said.

Those who wish to help can call Thuan Chye at 012-4782894. Cheques can be made out to Pengkalan Kota Service Task Force, with the name Woo Kwee Fatt written on the back, and sent to Block 354 management office, 11th floor, Gat Lebuh Macallum, 10300 Penang.

Also visiting the family were Lee Hack Teik, former Pengkalan Kota assemblyman, and state Gerakan Youth secretary Oh Tong Keong.
