Exciting night awaits fans as old rivals meet

Rolling back the years: Santokh Singh (right) trying to evade a player from Singapore in last year’s match. IT WILL be an entertaining and exciting night for some 70,000 football fans who will be flocking to the Shah Alam Stadium for the Sultan of Selangor's Cup football competition tomorrow night.
Before the football match between the Selangor veterans and their Singapore counterparts kicks off at 8pm, the fans can look forward to seeing local artistes Mas Idayu, Ella and David Arumugam (of the Alleycats) in action. All three are accomplished entertainers and have a lot of fans.
Organising chairman Datuk Abdul Karim Munisar said the local artistes would get the fans warmed up for the encounters on the pitch.
Queen of rock: Ella will performing to get the fans warmed up for the action on the pitch. “We want to make the event a memorable one for everyone at the stadium. The artistes have also promised to give their best. After the entertainment segment, the fans will be charged up for the exciting matches on the pitch,” said Abdul Karim.
The curtain-raiser – a 30-minute match between the Selangor veterans and Singapore veterans – will showcase some of the former greats from both sides of the causeway in action.
Selangor veterans, coached by former international Khaidir Buyong, will be led by an array of stars who had brought glory to the state and Malaysia.
They include Santokh Singh, Datuk Soh Chin Aun, Khan Hung Meng, Dollah Salleh, Azlan Johar, Ho Hon Seong, Yap Kam Choon, K. Rajagopal, K. Gunalan, P. Dharmalingam, P. Maniam, K. Gunasekaran, Ismail Ibrahim, Zolkifli Ahmad, Razali Alias, P. Somasundram and Zainal Abidin Hassan.
The Singapore veterans' line-up includes the likes of T. Pathmanathan, V. Sundram Moorthy, Lim Chiew Peng, Samad Allapitchay, Dollah Kassim, Quah Kim Song, Robert Sim, P. Suriamurthi, Haslir Ibrahim, Malek Awab, Yahya Madon, Syed Faruk, Abdullah Noor, D Tokijan, Razali Saad, Shamsudin Rahmat, Ho Kwang, Hock, Salim Moin and Kadir Yahya
The main match between the Selangor selection and the S-League selection should be an exciting affair. Both sides have reasons to win.
At stake is not only the RM50,000 prize money but, more importantly, pride.
Selangor selection coach Dollah Salleh believes his players are in the right frame of mind for the match.
“We have had a hectic outing in the M-League.
“But I am confident our players are eager to win the match,” he said.
