Light up buildings for National Day celebrations
By BAVANI M
BUILDINGS owners and management corporations in the city are encouraged to beautify and light up their buildings for the Merdeka Day celebrations in August.
At a briefing session with some 150 owners at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) premises on Friday, mayor Datuk Ab Hakim Borhan also encouraged the owners to display the jalur gemilang and the National Day slogan Malaysiaku Gemilang as creatively as possible.
Very creative: Buildings owners in KL taking a look at pictures taken last year on the various ways owners had decorated their buildings during Merdeka. “We want owners to light up their premises from 7pm to midnight during the Merdeka month and special incentives by Tenaga Nasional Berhad will be given to those who do so,'' Hakim said.
Hakim said Kuala Lumpur must project itself as a lively and vibrant city since it was the capital city which is not just for the residents but also for tourists.
“We can't have the city looking gloomy especially now when there are many tourists here particularly from the Middle East,'' he said.
Hakim said the Merdeka Day celebrations would be launched on Aug 17 in Terengganu, while the Ambang Merdeka celebrations would take place at Dataran Merdeka on Aug 30.
All ears: Buildings owners listening to a Merdeka Day briefing by KL mayor Datuk Ab Hakim Borhan. The National Day procession will be held at on Aug 31 in Putrajaya, while the closing ceremony will take place on Sept 18 in Sabah.
City folks intending to buy the national flag can do so at the DBKL lobby in Jalan Raja Laut.
