Natural touch to fashion show
By JEREMY TAN
BEAUTIFUL nature-inspired gowns, dresses and shirts with earthy pastel colours took centre stage at the Summer Fashion Show 2008 held at the MJ Fashion Store in Gurney Plaza, Penang.
The 80 pieces, exuding trendy yet classy elegance for both men and women from signature brands, were from a collection themed ‘The Good Life’.
As the photographers clicked away, models strutted down the catwalk in signature Victorian-styled UK brand Laura Ashley, showcasing pieces mixing leaves and flower prints with Indian styled woodblocks and African graphics. The earthy colours were accented with white and black floral motifs, giving a fresh, natural look.
East India Company’s collection also made use of natural earthy colours, inspired by the cultures, wildlife and beautiful landscapes of the African safari. The men’s shirts sported khaki shades for an adventurous feel.

“As summer is the high season for travelling, this range is meant to ensure one looks chic and trendy as he sets about on his vacations,” said Metrojaya deputy advertising and promotions general manager Alice Tan.
Rounding off the show was the Somerset Bay collection, characterised by a mood of romantic elegance, evocative of genteel ladies with impeccable taste, charm and poise.
Elegant: Gorgeous white gowns with a fresh, natural look. The pieces are made of light fabrics for utmost comfort in our tropical climate, adorned by soft flowing prints and feminine silhouettes in gentle pastels.
“Metrojaya is well known as a departmental store but now we’re introducing our fashion concept stores offering customers a one-stop shop for all kinds of apparel, whether it be casual, romantic or formal at affordable prices,” Tan added.
Woman in orange: Trendy look for summer. The Gurney Plaza outlet is Metrojaya’s second concept store in Penang while the other is at Sunway Carnival, Seberang Perai.
