Ramadan cheer for the needy
By LIM CHIA YING
FOOD supplies distributed through the office of Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh brought cheer to single mothers, disabled people and the poor in Angsana Apartments in USJ 1.
While the supplies may not be able to sustain them throughout the Ramadan month, these are meant to help ease their burden.
A little aid: Yeoh and Roslan (right) with disabled Carol Rasiah after giving out food supplies to the crowd. Yeoh said the Selangor government had allocated 700 food packets for every state constituency comprising 5kg of rice, 1kg of sugar and one tin of milk.
More than 200 food packets were alloted for the Angsana Apartments community and distributed through Yeoh’s office.
“We first identified the poor areas before listing the low-income group.
“Their combined household income must be below RM1,500 and they must have dependants,” said Yeoh when asked the criteria when identifying the deserving recipients.
Accompanying Yeoh during the distribution were JKP Zone 4 chairman Roslan Shahir Datuk Mohd Shahir, who is also the councillor for USJ 1, and his team of newly-appointed Zone 4 members, most of whom are community leaders.
Earlier, Yeoh had distributed between 40 and 50 packets of food supplies to single mothers and poor families at the flats in SS19 Subang Jaya.
Roslan pledged to help people with problems related to their apartments.
Yeoh said she had studied the problems plaguing Angsana Apartments like poverty, dengue and the locked-up public hall that should be for community use.
“The Land Office has written a letter to Umno USJ 1 branch in July requesting them to surrender the keys of the hall but the residents have yet to receive them,” said Yeoh.
“I’ve met the Rural and Regional Develop-ment Minister Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib to ask him to look into the matter and he has agreed to do so.’’
