Holiday villa for dogs
By WINNIE YEOH
IF you need a place to leave your dogs where they will be cared for when you go travelling or when you go to work, there is a such a place for them — the Sugar Rae Pet Village in Tanjung Bungah, Penang.
Located at the end of Persiaran Tanjung Bungah, the pet village is a double-storey bungalow with ample space for dogs to run around, play and even go for a swim.
Its owner, who wished to be known only as Aunty Kim, 54, and who grew up in a dog loving family environment, said her dream to start the pet village came true two years ago.
“I have always had dogs as pets when I grew up and they are truly man’s best friends.
“I took up grooming and pet care courses before I started operating this place,” she said.
She said the centre was specially designed for dogs, boasting an outdoor playground, a mini pool and spacious kennels with tiled floors and good air ventilation.
“I was thinking from the perspective of a pet when I renovated this place.
“If I were a pet dog, what kind of place would I like to stay, sleep and play in?
“Cages are not good for dogs’ paws while closed kennels will cause the dogs to develop kennel fever, too,” she said.
“Some dogs are timid while some are hyperactive and each one of them has its own temperament.
“So when I let the dogs out, I let them out one by one. They run, swim, and play with the balls,” she said.
The centre usually receives three to five dogs per day for the daycare service and caters up to 20 dogs for its boarding service.
During the holidays and festive seasons, it had always been “full house”, she said.
“That’s why I’m currently expanding the centre to cater to the demand of customers,” she said.
The centre currently operates from Monday to Saturday, 10am to 7pm.
