Dengue menace in Kajang Perdana
RESIDENTS of Kajang Perdana came out in full force last Sunday morning, not for any social outings - but to fight a battle against the mosquito menace in their area.
They had a reason for doing so as Kajang has recorded the highest dengue cases last year with 1,730 and Kajang Perdana alone was considered a critical area when three members of a family were hospitalised.
Team work: Residents, came out in full force for the gotongroyong exercise. According to Kajang municipal councillor S.T. Chandramohan the residents especially those at the low-cost apartments, where the first dengue cases were reported, decided to clean up their areas when Kajang Perdana was considered a “hotspot”.
“The statistics was enough to create an awareness among the residents on the importance of keeping their surroundings clean,’’ said Chandramohan.
Nothing is spared: The rubbish are being burned. Although only 55 residents had initially signed up for the “gotong-royong” exercise at the low-cost apartment area.
More people joined in later to help out to clear the drains which was found to be the main source of breeding grounds for the mosquitoes.
MPKj president Datuk Hasan Nawawi Abd Rahman joined the residents in the early morning “workout” and left soon after to join residents in other areas in the municipality in the gotong-royong programme which is being simultaneously carried out state-wide.
