Parking area for heavy vehicles not used

Reports by ELAN PERUMAL, THO XIN YI and OH ING YEEN

Subang Jaya

NONE of the four carparks allocated for heavy vehicles to park overnight is being used although it started operating since Sept 1.

At the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) full board meeting yesterday, it was revealed that no vehicle owners had come forward to rent the parking lots at RM300 a month.

The council had earlier scouted for plots of land to be leased to companies to operate such carparks to curb the illegal parking problem that is common in Subang Jaya, Taman Subang Mas, Taman Puchong Perdana, Taman Sri Puchong and Bandar Puchong Jaya.

The plots of land are located in Jalan TP 2 and TP 7 in Taman Perindustrian Sime UEP as well as Jalan Permai 1 in Taman Puchong Permai.

MPSJ president Datuk Adnan Md Ikshan said the operators had put up banners and distributed flyers but the heavy vehicle owners still preferred to park in housing areas although they should park at specific areas permitted by the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board.

“When we issue summonses that carry a fine of RM500, the vehicle owners give all sorts of excuses. Now that we have prepared these carparks, there is no reason to park illegally.

“We will take stern action from Oct 1 onwards to force these owners to use our carparks,” Adnan said.

On illegal carwash operators, the councillors were informed that 15 such outlets were raided and their machines and tools confiscated.

Reflexology centres a hot topic

Kajang

FOOT reflexology centres in Kajang that may be a front for sexual services was a hot topic at the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) full board meeting yesterday and some councillors have volunteered to go undercover to check on this.

Councillors Shamsol Bahari and Mohd Jan Sulong said they had heard about some hanky-panky at certain reflexology centres.

“When I called up one centre, the staff mentioned that ‘extra services’ are available,” Shamsol said.

Councillors walk out of meeting

Kuala Selangor

THE Kuala Selangor District Council’s full board meeting ended abruptly after the councillors walked out at the start of the meeting yesterday.

The councillors forwarded a three-page memorandum addressed to council president Haris Kasim before the walkout.

However, the walkout was delayed for several minutes after council secretary Azahari Sairin told the councillors that it was not proper for them to walk out of the meeting room.

Azahari than asked three representatives from the Pakatan Rakyat parties to sign a form before leaving.

Councillor K.N. Chandran said not all the councillors were aware of the walkout move until yesterday morning.

It is learnt that the walkout was aimed at sending a strong message to the council that improvements must be made.

He said the councillors were unhappy over the lack of transperancy in the council whereby maintenance contracts were given to contractors without the knowledge of the councillors or permission of the full council.

It is also learnt that the councillors are unhappy over the lack of cooperation from the council staff and officers.

Among others, the memorandum also stated that the council had failed to issue 10 days notice to the councillors on the full board meetings, the full board meeting minutes lacked details, its financial report was incomplete and complaints from public were not acted upon.
