Bringing festive cheer to 150
THE Penang National Unity and Welfare Council and Permatang Pauh MIC division brought festive cheer to 150 needy folk from the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency by giving them a food hamper each in conjunction with Deepavali.
Council president Datuk Arif Shah Omar Shah and Penang MIC Liaison Committee chairman Datuk P.K. Subbaiyah handed out the hampers to the recipients on Wednesday at the division’s office in Taman Arowana.
The recipients included single mothers and the hardcore poor.
Subbaiyah said the party also gave away food hampers to the needy at several other places in the state.

“We do not want anyone to miss out in celebrating Deepavali,” he added.
He said although the MIC was not part of the state government, the public was still seeking the party’s help to solve their problems such as obtaining birth certificates and welfare aid.
Subbaiyah, who is a former Bagan Dalam assemblyman, also said the state MIC had lined up several programmes to benefit the Indian community in Penang.
Arif Shah urged Indians to support the MIC as the party had helped looked after their welfare since the country gained independence.
