Bandar Sri Damansara folk worried about mud flows

Whenever it rains, muddy water would flow down Persiaran Meranti in Bandar Sri Damansara like a stream, causing residents to worry about the consequences of a large-scale development in the area.
They said the phenomenon happened since several months back as earthwork on a site located opposite the Paradesa Rustica and Paradesa Tropica condominiums became extensive.
“We wonder if the developer has taken the appropriate measures to prevent mishaps from happening, but from the looks of it, they have not,” said Russellia Residents Association protem committee chairman Devandran Muthu.
He said the muddy water would flow all the way to the low-lying areas where restaurants and apartments were located.
Cause of problem: Earthwork of this project site along Persiaran Meranti, Bandar Sri Damansara causes muddy water to flow onto the road whenever it rains. The mud flow also formed puddles hazardous to motorists and pedestrians, in addition to polluting the environment.
“The residents are traumatised by the strong gush of mud water, we cannot imagine what lies ahead if nothing is done to address the mud flow.
“We are not against the development, but we hope the developer has done what it should to ensure the safety of nearby residents, as well as be aware of the effects of the project on the environment,” he added.
Bandar Sri Damansara Residents Association chairman Ravindran Raman Kutty urged the developer to come forward and take proactive measures to rectify the matter.
Safety concern: Devandran Muthu pointing to stagnant muddy water along Persiaran Meranti Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) councillor Chan Chee Kong said the council had identified the developer responsible and was looking into the possibility of issuing the company a compound.
“The council’s engineering department has also ordered contractors on the site to take immediate measures to stop the mud flow within a week,” he said, adding that the council had cleaned up the mess of mud caused by the recent rain storms.
He said the project was not located within Bandar Sri Damansara. If the problem persisted, the council would consider closing the site’s access road in Bandar Sri Damansara to prohibit the trucks and lorries from using Persiaran Meranti.
“It is not fair that the residents here are bearing the brunt,” he added.
