Soo will be performing in Taiwan
By SETO KIT YAN
SOO Wincci is very ex-cited about meeting Taiwan-ese President Ma Ying Jeou at the Global Peace Festival Gala Dinner tonight.
“I want to take a picture with him!” Soo, 23, exclaimed during a recent interview.
Soo: ‘I also hope to take up some dance classes and improve on my stage performance’ After her reign as Miss World Malaysia 2008, she was invited to perform in Taiwan as the Peace Ambassador of (NGO) Universal Peace Federation (UPF).
Representing Malaysia as a singer in her first overseas performance, she will be performing the traditional Chinese art of mask changing while singing her first single Secret, Half-revealed.
The beauty queen-turned-singer, who is actively involved in charity work, has also been invited to contribute to a community service project tomorrow where she will conduct spring cleaning with the underprivileged children from the House of Celebrity Heart, before serenading them with her self-composed song Beauty With a Purpose.
Later at night, Soo will perform to a live audience of 30,000 at the Global Peace Festival Concert which will be aired nationwide in Taiwan.
She expressed further excitement to be sharing the stage with her favourite singer - Taiwanese singing sensation Jam Hsiao.
“Initially we were slated to perform a duet of the concert theme song but time did not permit so we will both be singing our own songs instead.”
Known as much for his emotive and powerful soaring vocals as for his soft-spoken demeanour, Hsiao has stumped many journalists with his shyness, earning him the nickname “Number-One Guy With Least Words”. To Soo, however, that is one of his most attractive qualities.
“I like quiet guys.”
Other artistes performing at the concert include popular singer-songwriters like Ipoh-born Michael Wong and visually-handicapped Hsiao Huang-qi.
The bubby lass will also take along with her 100 copies of her self-titled debut mini-album sponsored by Samsung, for charity fund-raising purposes.
She has plans to extend her stay in Taiwan for intensive song composition and vocal training courses with acclaimed producers Ma Yu Fen and Howard Ku. Soo will also be meeting up with her Taiwanese counterparts for the release of her mini-album in Taiwan and work on her upcoming second album which will be a 10-track release.
“I also hope to take up some dance classes and improve on my stage performance,” added Soo, who says she admires Taiwanese pop diva Jolin Tsai for being a very hard-working artiste and hopes to emulate her tenacious idol.
“People only see the glitter and glamour of being an artiste. In truth, hours of practice and a lot of hard work goes into every successful performance.”
