Career expo offers 4,000 jobs
SOME 4,000 jobs and 10,000 free air tickets are up for grabs at the ‘6th Penang Career Postgraduate Expo 2009’ at the Penang International Sports Arena (Pisa) this weekend.
Event organiser PenExpo Events Sdn Bhd managing director Francis Wong said the exposition was expected to draw 30,000 visitors, more than last year’s turnout of 27,000 people.
“We feel this is possible as the market is picking up and people are opting for new jobs,” he said.
He said there would be 66 booths set up by multinational corporations (MNCs), local companies and universities offering an array of jobs and post-graduate courses.
“We have also set up 10 rooms for MNCs and local companies to conduct “on-the-spot” interviews with prospective candidates.
“This augurs well for both the employer and applicants as job seekers will come fully prepared with their resumes and credentials,” he said.
Wong said from the company’s observation of its previous career expositions, MNCs preferred to conduct interviews on the spot, followed by another interview shortly after the fair.
“Successful applicants normally get hired within two weeks.
“It’s fast and convenient, as both parties can decide there and then,” he added.
He said Firefly was giving away 10,000 free tickets to various destinations on a first come, first served basis.
Wong said there would be career talks and counselling sessions for those who are undecided about their career paths.
The exposition will be from 10am to 6pm this Saturday and Sunday
It is jointly organised by PenExpo Events Sdn Bhd and AIESEC, which is the Malay- sian charter of the global student organisation.
The event has been endorsed by the state government and the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM).
Firefly is the main sponsor. For more details, call 019-4579471.
