Ben 10 comes to town
By AZHARIAH KAMIN
THE globe’s hottest cartoon character, Ben Tennyson, has checked into Kuala Lumpur for some exhilarating action and is set to take families on an incredible adventure into the world of Ben 10 in Power Of The Omnitrix.
This world famous alien-morphing boy hero is in town with his smart and funny cousin Gwen, Grandpa Max and his friend-or-foe Kevin Levin.
For the children: The cast members with Ben 10 fans. Combining the best of Ben 10 and Ben 10 Alien Force, the 90-minute Ben 10 Live on Stage – Power of the Omnitrix brings an international cast of 26, comprising actors and professional stunt performers from Australia and Latin America, including Ben (David Harrison), his cousin Gwen Tennyson (Khali Grimshaw), friend Kevin Levin (Alex Osmond) and Grandpa Max (Paul Holmes).
The show’s world premiere was staged in Bangkok, Thailand, last week. Kuala Lumpur is the second leg of an 11-country tour across Asia Pacific.
It took the production team headed by Nick Larkin, the chief dreamer of Millennium Entertainment International Live a total of 18 months from formulating the idea to the live debut in Bangkok.
The 90-minute show sees Ben Tennyson and his super hero alter-egos in a bid to save the world in an adrenaline pumping theatrical extravaganza topped with a myriad of cool special effects, electrifying action and high-flying adventures.
Ben 10 Live on Stage – Power of the Omnitrix is divided into two acts: the first part is based on the original series, and the second, Ben 10 Alien Force.
Based on the first episode of Ben 10, Act One follows the history of the Omnitrix and sets the scene for incredible adventures. It is here that Ben learns about the power of the Omnitrix watch and how it can transform him into an alien-morphing boy hero.
Boy wonder: David Harrison, 18, plays the world famous alien-morphing boy hero Ben Tennyson. In Act Two, five years have passed and Ben is now a 15-year-old attending high school. Ben has not worn the Omnitrix since that summer vacation long ago, but with Grandpa Max missing, our hero needs to get re-acquainted with the watch to face new villains and foes.
Making their global debut live on stage are two new alien superheroes created specifically for the show - the super strong and solidly built Rocks and the multi-tentacled, deeply spiritual, yet incredibly strong Squidstrictor. They will make their first appearance in Kuala Lumpur and take audiences on a thrilling adventure in Power Of The Omnitrix.
The new characters join superheroes such as Four Arms, Wildmutt and Heatblast and villains Vilgax and High Breed Commander.
Wan Zaleha Radzi, managing director of Asiapromote Ventures, who looked excited from watching the live show in Bangkok last weekend said the live show brought out the child in her.
“We at Asiapromote Ventures were looking for something new for the children in terms of bringing in a stage play for them and we came across the Ben 10 cartoon character that bowled over million of children and adults alike globally. That’s when we decided to bring in Ben 10 Live on Stage,” she said.
Power of the Omnitrix is the first show where children can determine the ending by simply logging on to www.ben10.net and vote for any of three alternative endings that they want to see the most.
Even the cast themselves don’t know the ending until minutes before each show starts!
Ben 10 Live On Stage will be staged till Sunday at Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur. Showtime is 2pm, 5pm and 8pm. Tickets are priced at RM38, RM53, RM93, RM133, RM153, RM188 and RM218. For information, call 03-7880 7999 or browse ticketpro.com.my.
