SOME of the little ones had turned up armed with props and accessories while others just wanted to have fun.

The children were taking part in the Mines Shopping Fair Little Sunshine Swimsuit Contest, which was held at the Splash Park, The Mines’ latest attraction, on Sunday.

The contest featured 26 children in swimsuits of various colours and designs, vying for the top spot in the contest.

Top three: Network Foods (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd marketing manager Tong Siew Fong with the winners, (from left) second runnerup Tong Tong, winner Brenda Lee, and the first runner-up, also named Brenda Lee

Brenda Lee spiced up her catwalk by blowing soap bubbles and the added innovative touch won her the first prize.

Family members were out in full force to cheer the children, armed with cameras to capture their antics.

Some parents even prompted their nervous children who forgot their moves on stage.

While it was a girls-dominated contest, the five boys who took part put up a good show and two of them won in the Special Prize category.

Liang Cheng Ming, the youngest contestant at just two years old, sported a big grin as he was accompanied on stage by his sister Jiun Ni, who also took part in the contest.

“This is his first time taking part in such contests. We decided to let him have a go as he has always shown enthusiasm when his sister practises for contests,” his mother Paloma Pang said.

None of the children went home empty-handed as even those who did not make it to the top spots received consolation prizes.

After the contest, the children enjoyed a fun afternoon in the pool and playground at the Splash Park.
