Glitzy affair at Awards night

By PRIYA MENON

THE staff and guests of the Masterskill University College of Health Sciences were dressed to kill at the Masterskill Oscar Nite annual dinner.

The ladies were dressed to the nines, like Hollywood actresses in their finery, while the men were not to be outdone, looking smart in their best suits and tuxedos for the glittery night at Le Marquee in the Palace of the Golden Horses in Seri Kembangan.

The event on Friday was attended by 1,200 staff members from the institution’s various campuses, including those in Kota Baru, Kuching, Alor Setar, Ipoh, Kota Kinabalu and Cheras, as well as guests.

The guest of honour was Masterskill University College of Health Sciences chancellor Raja Datuk Seri Azureen Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah.

In his speech, Masterskill Education Group Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Edmund Santhara said the dinner was part of the continuous effort to develop oneness within the Masterskill family.

According to him, the Kuching campus will be operational by January 2010 while the Pasir Gudang campus will be ready by April 2010.

A highlight of the night was the lucky draw, which had excited staff members waiting eagerly for announcements of the winners. This was hardly surprising as the grand prize was a Proton Persona 1.6 (automatic) while the first prize was a 45-inch LCD TV with a blue ray system home theatre.

Apart from that, 13 awards were given out to 42 recipients who showed traits of great leadership.

Among the awards were Employee of the Year, which went to Salimah Ibrahim and Victor Slyvester, and the Chief Executive Officer Award, which went to chief operating officer Alicia Nathan and vice-president of public affairs Abdul Rashid Mohd Shariff.

The winners of the Employee of the Year award each received RM5,000, a trophy and a certificate, while the CEO Award winners took home a 47-inch LCD TV home theatre worth RM20,000 and a certificate each.

The recipients of other awards, including Professionalism, Adaptability, Personal Integrity, Energiser award and Harmoniser award, took home RM1,000, a trophy and a certificate each.

There were special performances by professional groups, including some famous songs like the Pussycat Doll’s Buttons and Jai Ho from the movie Slumdog Millionaire.

However, the performance that the guests probably enjoyed most was a dance routine by the Masterskill staff members who rocked to the tune of Jai Ho.
