Rising stars vie for award
THE annual Martell Rising Personalities Awards is back once again to recognise up-and-coming individuals who rise above the competition and have great potential to reach greater heights.
Now in its third year, the Martell Rising Personalities Awards 2009 features 10 rising stars from various fields, one of whom would be named the winner of the Martell Rising Personality Award.
Potential for greater success: The 10 personalities who have been selected for the Martell Rising Personalities Awards 2009 are (standing, from left) Teresa Thian, Nick Chia, Chelsia Ng, Douglas Lim, Will Quah, Nychole Leong, Chin Yew, Tan Sze Yoong, (seated, left) Chow Hon Lam and Cecilia Yong. The 10 personalities were selected based on their career achievements, potential for greater success, and a certain level of recognition within their own field and beyond.
This year’s personalities, who have all embraced opportunities to rise above life’s challenges and, more importantly, their own expectations, are: dancer Cecilia Yong, singer and actress Chelsia Ng, artist Chin Yew, T-shirt designer Chow Hon Lam, comedian and actor Douglas Lim, DJ Nick Chia, DJ Nychole Leong, jewellery designer Tan Sze Yoong, fashion designer Teresa Thian, and TV host Wil Quah.
“Martell has long prided itself on the self-made success of its adventurous founder Jean Martell, and applauds those who do the same.
“Hence, the Martell Rising Personalities Awards is recognising these 10 aspiring young individuals who have risen above the competition to achieve a certain measure of success in life, while embodying the spirit and values of the Martell VSOP brand,” Martell brand manager William Lee said.
The winner of the award, who will be announced in December, will be determined via public voting and a panel of judges comprising Malaysians who have already made their distinctive mark in their respective fields.
The judging panel comprises Lewré International founder and design director Datuk Lewre Lew, Malaysian Official Designers’ Association (Moda) president and influential Malaysian fashion industry personality Gillian Hung, and award-winning filmmaker Chris Chong, whose debut feature film Karaoke was only the second Malaysian feature film to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival.
The winning personality, in addition to the award recognition, will receive a prize of RM20,000, an all-expense paid trip to Cognac, France, to visit the Martell facilities, and 10 bottles of Martell VSOP.
