Companies say ‘Buy Malaysian Products’ expo a success in promoting local products
KUCHING: The “Buy Malaysian Products Expo” in Sarawak is a platform for small and medium industry manufacturers and entrepreneurs to showcase their products and penetrate the international market.
The expo, organised by Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry, is aimed at providing an opportunity for quality local products to compete against well-known foreign brands.
The recent four-day expo was among 23 programmes initiated by the ministry to boost sales of local products.
Ratna Edwin, the operations manager of Oryza Food Industries Sdn Bhd in Sarawak, said the expo served a great opportunity for his company to promote the country’s first pre-germinated rice, using Sarawak brown rice, to the people.
“The pre-germinated rice is a new product introduced in March and many are not aware of its nutritional values. It is rich in vitamin, cholesterol-free and also an antioxidant.
“Through the expo, we were able to create product knowledge and awareness among the public.
“The event also serves as an opportunity to introduce our product to the foreign market.
“It increases our revenue and saves us the advertising cost,” he added.
Cassandra E. Havelock from Nature’s Farm, a company producing soap with goat’s milk, said such expos should be held in small towns as well, like Limbang and Sri Aman.
Havelock also suggested that the duration of such expos be extended to about a week or more.
“Four days is too short a time and visitors to the expo had suggested that the duration be extended so that more people around Kuching will be able to benefit,“ she said.
Meanwhile, Azmi Ahmad Shukri, branch manager of Sarawak’s Arazsuccess which produces juice from leaves and roots of plants, said such expos provide inspiration and the chance for local companies to expose their capabilities and products. — Bernama
