Relief for muscle and joint pain
THE most common areas affected by muscle and joint pain are the neck, shoulder, upper and lower back as well as the weight-bearing joints such as the knees and ankles.
Muscle and joint pain can arise from over exertion of a group of muscles as well as from repetitive mechanical or physical work. Some get it from working long hours at a computer, while others may experience it after a workout in the gym or a game of sport.

These insights on the different types of joint pain were provided by Malaysian Physiotherapy Association president Dr Balwant Singh Bains at the launch of the Panaflex Pain Relief Patch, a medicated patch based on a unique hydrogel technology, for muscle and joint pain relief, by GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Sdn Bhd (GSK) recently.
This is the first time in Malaysia that GSK is extending its expertise in pain relief into a topical format.
“Muscle and joint pains are increasingly common due to our sedentary lifestyle. Based on consumer research, one in four adults in Malaysia experience muscle and joint pain,” said GSK vice-president and general manager, South Asia, Akhil Chandra.
He added that upon application, the Panaflex Pain Relief Patch would provide immediate and long-lasting effect.
“Based on our research, 45% of muscle and joint pain sufferers use a combination of topical and oral pain relief.
“GSK now offers options of both an oral pain reliever with Panadol Extend as well as a patch with Panaflex Patch. to provide consumers a complete solution for their muscle and joint pain,” said GSK Malaysia/Singapore head of marketing for oralcare and analgesics Vong Yuit Meng.
Panaflex Pain Relief Patch contains medicated ingredients which penetrate into the affected area to soothe muscle and joint pain.
“Panaflex has a clean minty fragrance and can be applied on the shoulder, neck, waist, back, elbow and knee. We are confident Panaflex Pain Relief Patch will set new benchmarks in pain relief for medicated plasters,” Vong said.
Panaflex, from the maker of Panadol, retails at RM5.50 for a box of two patches. It is available at all leading pharmacies, supermarkets, Chinese medical halls and mini-markets in Malaysia.
