Special camp to teach youngsters about protecting the environment
THERE has probably never been a more crucial time for environmental education.
Keeping this in mind, popular cosmetic brand Kiehl’s that’s part of L’Oréal Malaysia will be supporting the Save Our Rare Earth Biodiversity Camp in mid-November at Gunung Nuang in Ulu Langat, Selangor, with its long-term partner Yayasan Anak Warisan Alam (Yawa).
For the future generation: Local celebrities (from left) Serena C, Aishah Sinclair, Sazzy Falak, Rina Omar and Yasmin Hani striking a pose at the ‘Save Our Rare Earth’ campaign launch. “Kiehl’s has maintained an impassioned commitment to the environment for many years,” said L’Oréal Malaysia managing director Andrew Stanleick, adding that as future caretakers of the planet, children are set to inherit a huge array of eco-challenges.
“Young people have always played a key role in our environmental initiatives. After all, it is today’s younger generation that will have to bear the future consequences of present-day exploitation of our planet.
“So it is essential to involve them today in acting responsibly for our Mother Earth,” he said.
“The camp is our second collaboration with Yawa to promote environmental awareness and sustainable development issues among Malaysian youth.”
The objective of the camp is to equip the participants with a deeper environmental responsibility and awareness, and ensure that many of these young people return to their communities ready to become agents of positive change in sustainability.
Participants aged between 10 and 17 years will be exposed to and given the opportunity to learn why and how they can protect and preserve the abundance and variety of species, ecosystems and diversity of the rainforest.
Saving the earth: Stanleick (left) and Yawa CEO Adly Mohd shaking hands to seal the two organisations’ collaboration. The camp, accommodating 80 participants, will include children with special needs.
The young eco-explorers will take part in activities like jungle-trekking, water-testing, bird-watching, eco-craft and survival skills.
