Creative time for home’s kids
IT WAS a morning of fun and laughter for the children at Shelter Home as they tapped into their inner creativity and created their own t-shirts, necklaces, bracelets, brooches and even anklets.
The Truly Loving Company (TLC) worked with charity partner Shelter Home and organised a fun creative workshop for children aged seven onwards.
Creative session: The children having fun creating their own necklaces, bracelets and brooches during the workshop. Fashion designer Melinda Looi with her team of volunteers had a busy session teaching the girls and boys how to make their own accessories during the workshop.
The younger children were kept occupied with a face-painting activity.
The event was held in conjunction with TLC’s second donation of RM10,000 to the home.
Shelter is a registered, voluntary welfare organisation for children and teenagers who have been abandoned, neglected, orphaned or abused.
Shelter’s commitment is to provide care and protection for children in need and at risk.
Shelter also proactively raises public awareness on child abuse, child protection, parenting and youth issues, and equips individuals with relevant skills to detect signs of abuse and to take action.
Shelter Home manager Anderson Selvasegaram said the children were excited and seemed engrossed in making their own accessories.
“Apart from learning a new skill to create something nice for themselves, which is really rare, it is also a break from their normal routine in the school,” he said.
TLC founder and CEO Julia Chong said the RM10,000 donation was part of TLC’s long-term mission and commitment in supporting its charity partners.
“By creating an event with each of our charity partners, we get to understand the work and the challenges that our partners face, and that gives us greater motivation to drive our mission.
“We hope the creative workshops will bring some fun and joy to these children whose future is still uncertain,” she said.
