Houseowners in Taman Daya to get land titles after 25 years
By STUART MICHAEL
ABOUT 1,500 house owners in Taman Daya, Kepong, will finally be getting their land and strata titles after waiting for nearly 25 years.
There are 1,380 houses and 120 apartments without any land or strata titles.
Everything in order: Leong (standing third from right) looking at the residents sorting out their documents at the press conference. According to Selayang MP William Leong, Taman Daya residents will be receiving the titles soon after being processed by the Gombak Land Office.
Leong pointed out that the developer of houses winded up on June 18.
“Gabriel Teo has been appointed as liquidator to handle the matter. The liquidator has ensured that the necessary transfer forms of the master title are signed and have already submitted it to the Gombak Land Office on Nov 3.
“Now the residents commitee will proceed with the application of the master title,” said Leong at a press conference with residents at his service centre in Taman Selayang Jaya recently.
“To ensure the process is legitimate, we encouraged all house owners staying in Taman Daya to contact our committee at Liu Thian Choy at 019-311 9880 and show documents of their house ownership,”
He added that the value of the land had also appreciated in the past 20 years.
“I don’t think the residents can afford to pay the premium,” said Leong, adding that he had spoken to the district officer at the Gombak Land Office to lower the land premium.
“It is estimated that each owner would have to pay about RM1,000 to get their individual title, which I find reasonable,” he said.
Earlier, Taman Daya Residents Association chairman Tan Chong Leng said Taman Daya consists of three master titles.
“One of the three master titles has been sub-divided into 330 individual titles and two block titles for Ria Apartment in 1991 comprising 120 units.
“For the Ria Apartments, the developer did not apply for strata titles. The total number of houses and apartment units without titles are 1,500.
“The developer owed more than RM480,000 in land premium to the Gombak Land Office, hence the delay in getting the titles,” he said.
