An entertaining Deepavali party

MORE than 800 people attended a Deepavali dinner party hosted by the Deputy Federal Territories and Urban WellBeing Minister Datuk M. Saravanan recently.
The guests from various government and non-government organisations (NGOs), political parties and the media mingled at the celebration held at the Grand Seasons Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

Some of the notable people who attended were Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin, MIC President Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Koh Tsu Koon and Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Ahmad Fuad Ismail.
Kuala Lumpur MPs Fong Kui Lun, Tan Kok Wai and Lim Lip Eng were also present.
Members of the local Tamil film fraternity were also guests at the glitzy dinner party.
During the dinner, 18 Indian- based NGOs comprising youths, sports clubs and religious organisations were presented cash aid amounting to RM100,000.
“The money was given by the ministry through MIC to these people who asked me for aid in my capacity as a deputy minister,” said Saravanan.
Nong Chik, Saravanan and Samy Vellu also cut a cake at the dinner party.
Guests were entertained by live classical Tamil music and a buffet spread consisting of a wide variety of Malaysian fare.
