A baby in dire need of help
WHEN three-month-old S. Nirnasha breathes, part of her chest collapses forming a deep depression and she often feels weak and lethargic.
This is because the little one has three cardiac defects that need to be repaired urgently.
Her father Y. Sharavaanam, 31, said doctors have found that the largest blood vessel in Nirnasha’s lungs were narrowing.
Nirmasha with her mother L.Usha. “They also diagnosed her with ventricular septal defect (VSD) and atrial septal defect (ASD).
“I was advised by doctors to give my daughter a specific infant formula to boost her immune system, but the milk would often spill out through her nostrils,” said Sharavaanam.
He said he was given hope when Nirnasha was referred to a cardiothoracic surgeon at a private hospital who found that the child’s ailments could be corrected through surgery.
But the RM45,000 cost, including peri-operative care and ward stay, is beyond Sharavaanam’s means. He earns an average income of RM1,000 a month and subject to availability of contract work.
“I have no means to raise this amount and I would like to beg for help to save my daughter,” said the forlorn father when he showed up yesterday at the Star’s office in Prai seeking help.
Thos willing to help can send crossed cheques (with Nirnasha’s name on the back) made out to the Malaysia Hindu Sangam and sent to 6, Lorong Kampung Gajah 2, Jalan Kampung Gajah, 12200, Butterworth. Those who need more details, can contact MHS Butterworth council president G. Shanmuga-nathan at 016-4153829.
