MALACCA: The nation’s thespians and musicians can now build their dream homes in the Artistes Village to be developed on a 25.5ha site in Melaka Pindah, Alor Gajah.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Ruslam said the village would be developed by Yayasan Melaka and would include 217 lots, a 1.8ha open-air stage, training and film studio, and an auditorium.
“We hope to create a new attraction for the state and give those in the film and music industries the opportunity to buy land here to build their dream home, he said when met after a briefing on the Artistes Village here recently.
Response so far had been encouraging, he said, with Yayasan Melaka receiving 121 applications from the Malaysian Singers Association (Papita), of which 16 had already placed the RM4,200 deposit for their plots.

Among the more well-known personalities who have shown keen interest in the project are Tan Sri Jin Shamsudin, Datuk Haji Sattar and Datuk Rosli Hasan.
Mohd Ali said the village would boost Malacca’s effort to develop the local film and music industries here.
He said roads leading to the village were due for completion within the next three months, before other amenities were built.
On the RM32mil Malacca Wonderland Water Theme Park project in Ayer Keroh, he said it was expected to open partially for business middle of December. He added that the theme park would provide an alternative recreational spot for tourists who wish to avoid the usually congested roads in the heart of the city when visiting the state.
The theme park, spanning 12.94ha, will include 28 dry and wet rides.
