A fine balancing act
By SHARON LING
DRESSED in colourful costumes, cast from the Zunyi Acrobatic Troupe from China put on a spectacular show at the MBKS Stadium in Kuching recently.
They mesmerised the crowd with their juggling and balancing feats.
There were plenty of skills on display, such as juggling multiple balls and twirling plates on sticks.
Hats off: Colourful and entertaining performers. One of the show-stopping acts featured an acrobat on top of a tall pile of stacked chairs while another one had more than 10 acrobats balancing on a bicycle.
In another act, the acrobats juggled their straw hats in the air while performing acrobatic twists and turns.
The troupe was endorsed by the Sarawak-China Friendship Association for a performance to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations.
Jump!: The performers showing their skills with a rope. Assistant Minister of Youth Affairs and Tourism Hamden Ahmad, who earlier welcomed the troupe members at a lunch at the Sarakraf Pavilion here, said cultural ties between Malaysia and China had been long established through trade during the time of Admiral Cheng Ho.
“The finding of remains of beautiful Ming Dynasty porcelain in Kabong in Saratok district clearly shows our trading ties.
“This shared heritage is a valuable bond of friendship and diplomacy which we are proud to cherish and continue to enhance further,” he said.
Full concentration: No plates were broken during this performance. The Zunyi Troupe from Guizhou province was founded in 1958.
Its members had won over 70 medals in domestic and overseas competitions. They have performed in 51 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and America.
