By THO XIN YI
A MYRIAD of colours greeted Puchong residents who turned up at the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) Fishing Carnival 2009 on Sunday.
Held at the Puchong Perdana lake garden, the event was more a family carnival with the fishing competition as the main highlight.
The race begins: Participants leaving the shore for the kayak competition. About 200 anglers had settled down at their favourite spots around the lake as early as 8am.
As the horn was sounded, they cast their lines into the lake and started their bid to clinch the top prizes.
Meanwhile, children had fun taking part in the colouring contest, while teenagers and adults joined the sepak takraw, kabaddi, karaoke, tug-of-war and kayak competitions.
Spirits were high all around the park, and especially where the tug-of-war was taking place, as spectators cheered on the participants.
Many boys, on another hand, were glued to the remote-controlled speed boats, which zoomed on the lake under the control of their respective owners.
The public watched in awe when exponents demonstrated the self-defence martial arts of the various races, each distinctive in its own way.
MPSJ president Datuk Adnan Md Ikshan later presented the prizes to the winners of all the contests. Ahmad Rizwan Ali from Puchong walked away as the fishing competition champion with his catch of 5.82kg.
The carnival ended on a high note, with youths braving the drizzle and jumping into the lake to capture the ducks that were released.
