Red FM listeners gather at seventh round of party

By JADE CHAN

SMILES and greetings were exchanged, and even photographs taken, as participants busied themselves in getting to know one another at the seventh Love Classifieds Party held at a popular restaurant in Bangsar.

The party is a regular event held for Red FM listeners looking to meet new friends and mingle with a different group of people.

To win passes, participants had to SMS when the cue was announced during the Late Night Love Songs programme hosted by DJ Nisha.

“More than finding a date, Love Classifieds is about expanding your circle of friends,” she said.

“It’s fun to go out and find new people you share common interests with. After all, we do get stuck in a rut and this is an opportunity to get out of our shells to meet new people.

According to Nisha, Love Classi-fieds has successfully matched five couples, while three individuals have used it as a platform to meet their partners.

Sporting lot: The men and women choosing their locks and keys during the ‘Lock and Key’ icebreaker game.

“We even had seven from the first party who formed their own group to go out partying,” she said.

Personal assistant Ngew Li Li, 31, joined the event upon a friend’s invitation.

“This is my first time here. I came because I’m keen to check out the party and meet new people of all ages.

“The Red FM DJs here are very professional and friendly, and they know what they’re doing,” said Ngew, adding that she would not mind coming back if given the chance.

Her only complaint was that the venue was too small and crowded for people to mingle, and that the party should have been held at night when people would be more relaxed.

It was also 25-year-old salesman K. Murugan’s first time participating in a singles party.

“My brother invited me along. It was a good opportunity to meet single girls and make new friends,” he said.

“Hopefully, I will get to meet some of them later after we get feedback from submitting our forms.”

The participants, which numbered about a hundred, were treated to a spread of good food and free flow of drinks.

The Red FM announcers later stepped in to stir things up and conduct the ice-breaker games, including one called “Lock and Key”.

The female participants were each given a lock; the males a key.

Each time a male participant wanted a chance to open the lock of a particular female participant, he would have to ask a personal question.

The female could choose to answer or not answer the question.

Nisha said this game was introduced during last month’s party, after getting feedback that the atmosphere was too stiff during the initial few parties that focused on the speed-dating concept.

Participants were then asked to fill up a form indicating those they could get along with.

Red FM would match the forms and exchange the e-mail addresses of those interested.

“It is then up to them to take it from there,” said Nisha.

“Because this is a fun event, we tend to have some coming back to meet more people.”

The next Love Classifieds Party will be held at Luna Bar, Pacific Regency Hotel on April 25.
