Book read a hit with kids
Personal attention: A parent and her sons getting their books autographed by Choong at the school. LITTLE hands shot up enthusiastically as volunteers were invited to take part in a role-playing session during a book reading by Choong Kwee Kim at St Christopher’s International Primary School in Penang recently.
Choong read from her first book, Ah Fu the Rickshaw Coolie, to an audience of over 70 pupils from Year One to Year Three.
For an older audience of some 50 pupils in Year Five, she read from her latest book, The Wildlife Watcher, during which the children spoke about their encounters with wildlife such as an incident when a monitor lizard was seen slithering into a swimming pool.
Choong, who is also a sub-editor with The Star, later shared her experience as a journalist-cum-author and illustrator of children’s books. This was followed with an autograph session at the mini book sale at the school organised by MPH Gurney Plaza.
Bookstore manager Wong Hin Chow said the response was very good with over 80 copies of Ah Fu and Wildlife snapped up by the pupils, parents and teachers, some of whom bought extra copies to be sent to family and relatives living overseas.
