New use for old batteries
By SALINA KHALID
MOST people are already aware of the importance of recycling items like newspapers, aluminium cans and plastic bottles. But not many people realise that they could do the same with old rechargable batteries as well.
These batteries usually go into the dustbins.
Recycling rechargable batteries was part of the Sony United CSR programme held over the weekend.
All people had to do was drop off their rechargable batteries and other recyclable items at the counter located at the Rainforest in 1 Utama and get discounts up to 10% for a purchase of Sony products.
United team: Satoshi Okawa (fourth from left) and Sony group of companies management staff at the launch of Sony United CSR Campaign at 1 Utama. The discount was part of the offer available during Sony United CSR campaign launched on Friday.
The campaign involved Sony group of companies in Malaysia which includes Sony EMCS (M) Sdn Bhd, Sony (M) Sdn Bhd, Sony Supply Chain Solutions (M) Sdn Bhd, Sony Pictures Releasing International, Sony Music Entertainment (M) Sdn Bhd, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications International AB, Sony Precision Engineering Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Mediamax.com (the exclusive distributor for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment in Malaysia).
The campaign marks the companies’ joint effort in being responsible corporate citizens.
“Our corporate citizenship is epitomised by our on-going innovation in environmental technology, envi-ronmentally sound business practices and also in supporting a sustainable community.”
“Through this campaign and with the strength of eight Sony companies in Malaysia, we hope to continue to introduce programmes that focus on educating consumers on environmental conservation, help cultivate a compassionate society and at the same time encourage our employees to do the same,” said Sony EMC Malaysia managing director Satoshi Okawa, who is also Sony group of companies representative in Malaysia.
In conjunction with the launch of the Sony CSR campaign, Sony is organising a three-day exhibition on environmental awareness at the Rainforest, 1 Utama Shopping Complex.
Various activities have been lined up for the campaign, including a photo talk and photo-taking contest, “Trash Box” which is the latest PS3 game demostration and meeting the Red FM’s DJs.
