RM210,000 raised for Ti-Ratana
By LIM CHIA YING
MORE than RM210,000 was raised through a charity golf tournament and dinner recently in aid of the Ti-Ratana Children’s Home in Desa Petaling.
However, the amount collected this year is less due to the current economic slowdown. Last year, over RM500,000 was raised at the same charity tournament and dinner.
Some 136 golfers took part and were divided into four participants per flight.
The event’s organising committee member, Tan Chuan Yong, said each flight paid a fee of RM3,000. He said this tournament had been held for the last seven years. Worldwide Resins and Chemicals Sdn Bhd is the title sponsor.
“This is our annual commitment to help the Ti-Ratana home where monthly expenses total to about RM130,000.
For auction: Dhammaratana autographing a framed portrait of himself. “Through this event, we hope to help ease the home’s financial burden,” said Tan.
Following the tournament, the golfers had dinner at the Ti-Chen Restaurant at The Saujana Kuala Lumpur. The hotel is the co-sponsor for the event.
“All the proceeds go to the home,” Tan said.
Present at the dinner was Ti-Ratana founder and adviser Chief High Priest of Malaysia Venerable K. Sri Dhammaratana.
At the dinner, more money was raised through auctions.
Among the items were two paintings - a portrait of Dhammaratana that was auctioned off to Datuk Roger Tan for RM6,000 and another painting that was sold for RM2,000.
