By SIMON KHOO

KUANTAN: For some 400 kindergarten children and their parents of Tadika Sri Ayu here, it was a morning for some fun parent-child bonding at the annual sports day event recently.

Held at SJK (C) Kuang Hwa, Indera Mahkota, the event kicked off with a march past at the open field of the school.

Teachers have fun too:Tadika Sri Ayu teachers enjoying a game of fishing during the event.

The crowd stood at attention as the flag bearers entered the hall before the rendition of the national anthem, school and other patriotic songs.

The flag bearers were Armady Chee Zhi Ee (Malaysia flag), Fatin Sofea Mohd Sharifuddin (Pahang flag), S. K. Danusha (school flag), Aisha Khuderi Saedul Khuderi (Red House), Yeow Yan Qing (Green), John Woo (Blue) and Chaw You Juen (Yellow).

Shortly after, three pre-schoolers representing the three major races of Malaysia namely Lee Tiem Ven, Hasnul Haritz Hakimi and V. Verosinny addressed the crowd on stage with a welcoming speech followed by an oath-taking ceremony.

The crowd was then treated to several performances, such as the hula hoop, pom-pom and ribbon dances.

All set:The kindergarten children performing a march past at the field shortly before the games.

There were also surprises in store as a group of pre-schoolers did some somersaults to the delight and amusement of the audience, as some of the tots tumbled and fell onto the ground.

The crowd was also left in stitches enjoying the acts of a young child doing the breakdancing and another performing the chicken dance.

Games for the Grade One preschoolers, aged four, soon took off.

Let's go for a ride:A lucky parent and her child with a bicycle won during the lucky draw.

They had fun in games such as scoop a ball, run through hoop, run zig-zag and a sprint event.

Grade Two were divided into six groups according to colours, with Red House emerging the overall winner.

The eldest preschoolers, aged six, had fun in events such as skipping, netball and hurdles.

In the end, Daisy and Lily teams were the champion and first runner-up, respectively.

Parents and teachers also gamely took part in several games such as monkey walk, hurdles, twist-walking and fishing.

Some lucky parents also took home hampers and bicycles during the lucky draw sessions.

School principal Erlinda Yap said the event was part of their curriculum to expose pre-schoolers to sports and instill in them friendship and sportmanship.

Yap said others activities were also lined up such as health checks for cholesterol and blood pressure; free milk sampling, health products demonstration and sales of food and beverages.

“The pre-schoolers must be commended for practicing very hard for their performances. We also thank our sponsors, teachers and parents for making the event so fun and fulfilling,” she said.

Other exposure events organised by the kindergarten included trips to interesting places such as the Natural Batik Village in Balok.
