New series features search for the best food outlet
By DEBBIE CHAN
THERE is something about Malaysians when it comes to food. Mention a place and the local delicacy will soon become the main topic of the conversation.
We have heard stories of families and foodies who would willingly take a two-hour drive for the best beef brisket or fresh seafood noodles just to satisfy their tummy and palate.
So, it’s really all about food, isn’t it?
The Star Online.TV channel Switch Up will be embarking on a search around the cities and neighbourhoods for hidden secrets known only to the local communities.
Hot in the kitchen: The hosts on the first series attempting to cook a meal for eight people within the budget of RM80. Tucked away somewhere in an alley or the local wet market are unpretentious outlets and stalls that serve some of the best local offerings, from roti bakar to flavourful noodles.
While they may not be food connoisseurs (who really is, anyway?), the candid hosts of the shows will try various dishes and give their two cents’ worth.
And, what would food be all about if there was no cooking involved? It’s (Really) All About Food will take you into supermarkets to discover what the options are, and ingredients that you can use to whip up a quick and simple meal.
We will feature cooking for newbies, cooking meals within a set budget and which dishes would be more appropriate for different occasions.
To kick off the series, the first video will take us into Cold Storage at Subang Parade, where two young people are trying to find ingredients to cook a meal for eight people, within a budget of RM80.
After they have picked up their ingredients, they start their frantic cooking session and discover that pre-packed frozen delicacies can save the day, and the face, for last-minute arrangements.
It’s (Really) All About Food will feature a new episode every fortnight and the first episode is now available on http://www.thestaronline.tv/switchup.
