Raid on illegal gambling dens in Rawang
By STUART MICHAEL

Two illegal gambling dens busted
SIXTY-FIVE computers and monitors from two illegal gambling dens in Jalan 8, Taman Bersatu, Rawang, were seized during a raid by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) Enforcement Department yesterday.
The 20 enforcement personnel then sealed the premises.
Following a tip off, enforcement officers seized 34 computers and two television sets at the first outlet.
They had to use a metal cutter to get in and found the place deserted.
Those inside had apparently fled the scene upon hearing the commotion outside.
The second outlet appeared more like a mini-market and the team seized 31 computers and a television set.
Seized: MPS enforcement officers loading the computers onto a lorry. MPS enforcement department chief Megat Ainul Fadzlil Ainul Fadzil, who headed the raid, said the two outlets had been operating for the last three years. The outlets were issued a compound last year for operating without licences.
“There are also many illegal gaming outlets near the new market in Rawang town.
“We want to send a clear message to illegal gaming outlets that MPS will conduct raids frequently,” he said.
The two outlets raided are located behind Rawang assemblyman Gan Pei Nei’s service centre in Taman Bersatu.
Gan had reported the activities to MPS following complaints by parents that teenagers were patronising the outlets and wasting their pocket money on gambling.
“It is a good move by MPS and I hope it will be conducted monthly in cooperation with the police.
“Eventually, social problems like this among teenagers will be curbed,’’ she said.
