7,000 expected at trade exhibition
AN ESTIMATED 7,000 architects, interior designers, developers, quantity surveyors, engineers and other building industry professionals are congregating at Archidex 09 (10th Malaysia Architecture, Interior Design and Building Exhibition), which runs until tomorrow at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Organised for the 10th consecutive year, Archidex is jointly organised by the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) and CIS Network Sdn Bhd, and is held concurrently with the PAM 2009 Convention. The opening ceremony on Thursday was officiated by Deputy Works Minister Datuk Yong Khoon Sen, who represented Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor.
Other VIPs and dignitaries present at the launch were PAM president Lee Chor Wah, Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM) president Datuk Nur Haizi Abdul Hai, PAM deputy president and DATUM:KL2009 organising committee chairman Boon Che Wee, Board of Engineers president and JKR (Works Ministry) director-general Datuk Sri Dr Judin Abdul Karim, and CIS Network Sdn Bhd president and Archidex 09 joint organiser Vincent Lim.
Archidex 09 gives building industry professionals a platform to keep abreast of the developments in the built environment as well as mingle and network with captains of the industry, apart from sourcing for innovative products, designs and services.
The exhibition, involving more than 300 local and international exhibitors, features more than 800 exhibition booths in six halls of the convention centre.
The international participators are from Thailand, Australia, Austria, Italy, Hong Kong, China, Singapore and Brunei. Archidex is also collaborating with country partner Austria to showcase exhibits and services for the built environment from some reputable Austrian companies.
There is also the Sufficiency Architects (ASA), Thailand, Architectural Students Exhibition and Animations and Architectural Models Showcase.
The event is also the challenge ground among exhibitors who are featuring the latest products in the market. The New Product Awards serves as an encouragement and acknowledgement to exhibitors, whose products will be judged not only by their designs, but also their functions and features. Fifty-four submissions had been received from 44 exhibitors and winners will receive their awards at the Building Industry Dinner tonight.
Archidex 09 is setting another milestone by highlighting eco- and environment-friendly products showcased at the exhibition. More than 23 products have been given the “Green Product” label.
Another main feature of the exhibition is Expos @ Archidex (Exhibition Hall 5), where exhibits are presented in a different concept and ambience to mesmerise and inspire.
Other must-attend PAM 2009 Convention events are PAM’s annual International Architectural Design Conference – DATUM:KL2009 on “Basic Design: The New Intelligence”, and the KL Design Forum 2009 on “Biomimicry – Nature as a Model, Measure and Mentor”. This year’s new addition – the Green Building Forum 2009 on “The New Green Industrial Revolution” – will discuss the latest in green design and Green Building Index.
A total of 19 prominent international and local speakers are sharing their insights into the world of architecture and design with more than 3,200 delegates to the Forums and Conference.
Industry professionals could also take the opportunity to get the latest information on eco products relevant to the built environment through the Green Biz @ Archidex talk, presented by BASF and Nippon Paint.
Among several other events that were lined up are the Designers’ Day and Architects’ Day, where more than 20 selected participating exhibitors hosted cocktail receptions for architects and designers.
After a stroll at the exhibition, visitors could also make a pit-stop at the Archidex Lounge, sponsored by ICI Paints (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd. Architects can also submit the CPD Point claim here.
Other events and highlights are the Building Industry Dinner, PAM Members’ Night/Professionals Networking Evening, Austrian Day, Architectural Site Visits and the Archidex 09 Golf Challenge Trophy. There is also the Visit and Win Contest for architects and interior designers visiting Archidex 09 and attending the Conference and Forums, with the lucky winner walking away with architectural and interior design software, sponsored by TS Exim Sdn Bhd.
Archidex is a trade exhibition and is open to persons 16 years old and above. Exhibition hours are from 11am to 7pm. Registration is required and admission is free. For further information, visit www.archidex.com.my or call 03-7982 4668.
