Group launches awareness programme on disease
RECKITT Benckiser (M) Sdn Bhd and GCH Retail (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd launched a joint anti-dengue initiative with the Health Ministry recently.
The campaign is aimed at drawing attention to the rising number of dengue cases and educating the public in the fight against the disease.
In aid of the community: Tantoco, Rosnah and Ho launching the anti-dengue campaign. Reckitt Benckiser is the manufacturer of the pest control brand Shieldtox while GCH Retail is the owner and operator of Giant Hypermarket.
Deputy Health Minister Datuk Rosnah Haji Abdul Rashid Shirlin, who officiated at the event, praised both Shieldtox and Giant in taking the lead to educate the public on matters related to dengue prevention.
She said: “This is the time when we need to step up efforts and increase our vigilance. We need the participation of everyone - local authorities, government agencies, NGOs, the private sector and the public – to ensure that our families and homes are safe from dengue.”
“We hope that through this campaign, more people will be educated and recruited to join this effort. After all, disseminating information is the key to solving the dengue menace,” she said.
To help combat this menace, Reckitt Benckiser, GCH Retail and the Health Ministry will be setting up facilities in 30 Giant outlets nationwide for people to learn about the disease and its prevention.
Through an interactive and engaging programme which will be held over a three-months period, the partners hope to reach out to as many Malaysians as possible.
Catherine Tantoco, marketing director of Reckitt Benckiser (M) Sdn Bhd said: “We have a responsibility to educate people on preventing Aedes mosquitoes, as well as encourage personal actions that help prevent the spread of the dengue. Our campaign with GCH Retail and the Health Ministry against Aedes mosquitoes is one way that we can engage consumers and empower them to do their part.”
Ho Mun Hao, marketing director of GCH Retail (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd said: “Ignorance and indifference about dengue can lead to disastrous and costly consequences not just for the affected person but for his family as well as the community.”
