Last two days of domestic tourism fair
By BAVANI M
WHEN it comes to vacation, people tend to look at overseas holiday as the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of life.
What they fail to realise is that, there are plenty of “gems” which are begging to be discovered right in our own backyard.
To discover some of these gems, make your way to the Malaysian Domestic Tourism Fair (MDTF) which is on until tomorrow at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).
The event, endorsed by the Tourism Ministry, is being held for the first time to promote domestic tourism.
“We want to support and complement the government’s objective of promoting domestic travel within Malaysia. There are so many hidden gems and tourism treasures that Malaysians have not discovered or experienced,’’ said deputy president of the National Tourism Council (NTCM) Datuk Shamsul Falak Abdul Kadir.
Shamsul Falak said it was through such a fair that NTCM hoped to showcase the wonders and attractions available in Malaysia.
The three-day fair, which started on Friday, offers many tour and travel packages as well as hotel promotions.
It was launched by Tourism Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Ong Hong Peng.
A total 150 booths have been taken up by travel and tour agents, national tourism organisations, state tourism development corporations, hotel and resorts, and other tourism-related companies.
Some 30,000 people are expected to attend the fair during the weekend.
