Special day for little one
FOR a group of parents who eagerly awaited the baptism of their newborn children, news that the sacred affair would not take place at the Church of St Francis Xavier Petaling Jaya but at the Arope Chapel did not dampen their spirits.
This was because June 14 was Corpus Christi (a Christian feast day that commemorates the presence of Christ in the Eucharist) and a throng of faithful Catholics were expected at the church.
Like all the other parents, Colin Anand Isitor and Elizabeth Sheela Chandran were happy that their second daughter Erin Sonia Colin Isitor was being baptised.
The happy moment took place after the mass celebration at the church.
Baptismal water: Saint Francis Xavier’s Father Simon Yong (centre) baptising baby Erin Sonia as she is being carried by her father Isitor. The five-month-old was baptised by parish priest Father Simon Yong together with six other infants.
Looking adorable in her baptism robe made by grandmother Rose Melton, Erin looked content when cradled by her father.
However, the chapel’s small confines was a little uncomfortable as there was little room to accommodate the large turnout of family and friends.
So, it was only natural for the baby to be edgy during the ceremony.
“Erin appeared a little grumpy during the ceremony. Like most babies, she cried when the priest poured holy water on her forehead.
“It was altogether a special event for all of us as close family members were also present at the event,” Melton, who came up from Kluang, Johor for the religious ceremony said.
Mid-year School Holiday: 3 days of tired but fun holiday in Singapore with my cousins. Lots of love from Marcus Ch’ng. Following the baptism, relatives and friends were invited to partake in a luncheon at a Chinese restaurant nearby.
Infant baptism is the Christian religious practice of baptising infants or young children. Traditionally, christening gowns are white and made with laces and intricate details.
The outfits often become cherished keepsakes worn by other children in the family and handed down from one generation to the other.
