Shop till you drop

By FARIDAH BEGUM

Bargains galore, and respite for sore feet too.

FOR the second year running, Pavilion KL is hosting the launch of the Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival under the patronage of the Tourism Ministry.

This time around, Pavilion KL is bringing home the message with its tagline – Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Your Oasis of Rewards. However, shopping at Pavilion KL may be just a little different this year.

The experience will be a little laid-back with the introduction of cafes and areas where shoppers can sit down, treat themselves to gourmet teas and coffee while enjoying the sights.

One of the latest additions is Cafe Estelle by Raffles, which covers part of the aisle in front of the branded stores on Level 2. You can even order from the cafe while you shop in one of the stores, and be served where you are.

Pavilion will offer the first 100 shoppers who spend at least RM10 during the first two days of the Mega Sale (this weekend) a free “Mega Breakfast” either at The Loaf or at KFC.

There are also 1,000 Happy Bags of goodies from most of the branded stores, including discount vouchers, fragrance and perfume samples, for the taking.

Pavilion KL, in keeping with the theme of the Mega Sale Carnival, “Malaysia Your Shopping Oasis”, will also ensure that their tenants extend their opening hours, while shoppers would be eligible for the lucky draws held in the last two hours of shopping.

EON Pavilion credit cardholders will not only receive three times the bonus points during this period but also a chance to win one of the eight luxury designer bags with an entry form for every RM250 spent.

To attract more customers, especially tourists, Pavilion KL has collaborated with three hotels nearby – The Westin Kuala Lumpur, The Prince Hotel and Residence, and The Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur – to offer visitors good hotel rates.

In the spirit of fun: These Australian tourists made it a point to toss coins into the three-tier crystal fountain for good luck.

International guests will also be entitled to special offers, discounts, gift redemptions and a lot more from more than 150 outlets with the complimentary Tourist Reward Card, which they would receive upon presentation of their passport or a Malaysia Airlines boarding pass at any of the Pavilion concierge counters.

Shoppers at this year’s Mega Sale Carnival will also get to see, and buy products made by Malaysians, besides spending on the usual fashion and food.

There is also the “Art for Sale” bazaar organised by the National Art Gallery on the pavements alongside Pavilion KL until Aug 31.

Last but not least, shoppers will have an exciting time buying branded items at very good discounts.

According to Pavilion KL’s public relations manager Nikola Hassan, the branded stores are always the target of shoppers, especially during the Mega Sale period.

Furthermore, Pavilion KL’s latest addition, a massive three-tier crystal fountain, is bound to awe visitors and shoppers. Located in front of its main entrance, the fountain was created by Pavilion KL in collaboration with Liuligongfang, an expert in ancient Chinese glassware.

It is said to be the first ever Liuli crystal fountain, weighs a total of 3.5tonnes, costs RM8mil to make, and is the tallest crystal fountain in Malaysia.

The fountain, which has made its way into the Malaysia Book of Records for its size, is composed of three hemispherical bowls embellished with the hibiscus motif.

It is meant to represent Malaysia’s multiracial society, its flow of water symbolising an endless blessing and prosperity for the nation.
