Young model has Malaysia in her heart
By CHOONG MEK ZHIN
NO matter where Mourhna Reddy ends up in the future, her final destination will always be home to Malaysia where her heart is.
“Travelling a lot has taught me to appreciate my fellow countrymen. We are a friendly and culturally rich people who have a unique warm smile that is recognisable anywhere,” Mourhna said, adding that Malaysians were united.
“I received a lot of support during the Miss Malaysia India Global 2006 pageant that I eventually won. That event opened up a lot of opportunities for me including a scholarship offer to complete my law degree,” she said.
Pageant hopeful: Mourhna, who was Miss Malaysia India Global 2006, hopes to represent Malaysia at the Miss World pageant this year. Mourhna believes such beauty pageants empowered women as well as provided a platform to promote charity and the act of giving back to society.
“Every girl who competes wants to win the crown as it provides her a platform to spread her wings. For me, that means I can start giving back to society that has supported me and brought me this far,” Mourhna said.
Another door that opened up for the 24-year-old Taiping lass recently was acting.
“A talent scout asked me to participate in a film produced by a company from India that was being filmed locally. I was given the part of a supporting actress and since then I have developed a passion for acting and wish to pursue it as a career,” she said.
Mourhna’s future plans may include going overseas where she wants to develop her potential as an actress.
“I believe the best place to kickstart my career is India. I may stay overseas for a while but eventually I know I’ll return home because I just love Malaysia,” she said.
Currently, Mourhna is one of the 21 finalists in the Miss World Malaysia 2009 pageant.
What do you like about KL?
The easy access to everything. Whatever I want to get I can get it here and whoever I want to meet I can meet here as well because it’s a metropolis that has a great networking system.
What do you dislike about KL?
The traffic jams because I drive a manual car and it gets pretty tiring.
What’s your favourite food?
I’d have to say street food particularly the night stalls in the Bangsar area where I can get nasi lemak as well as food from the Ramadan bazaars.
What do you do to relax?
I would chill out by the poolside at the condominium I am staying at with my sister and think about my day and what I’ve achieved as well as plan my coming days.
What’s your favourite place to hang out?
Bangsar Shopping Centre because there’s where all my friends would be.
