Matta fair for Muslim travellers
THE Malaysia Association of Tour & Travel Agents – Selangor Chapter (Matta Selangor) is organising the third Matta International Fair Selangor Umrah & Muslim Travel Destinations (Masum).
Masum 2010 will be held from Jan 15 to 17 at the SACC Convention Centre, Shah Alam, and will focus on offering Umrah tour packages as well as worldwide travel packages that are suited to Muslim travellers.
“As in previous years, the main objective is to provide a platform for Matta members, particularly bumiputra travel operators handling Umrah tours and Muslim travel, to promote and sell their packages,” said Masum 2010 organising committee chairman Khairiyatul Azmin Akhiruddin (Kay).
This year, Matta Selangor will be organising the event with Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS) and SACC Convec.
The organising committee anticipates 20,000 to 25,000 people to visit the three-day fair.
The organisers had planned to make available more than 90 booths and so far, more than 85% of the booths have been sold.
The fair is expected to showcase more than 50 exhibitors, ranging from travel agents and national tourism organisations to financial institutions.
The organisers added that the fair would be a boost and a great way to start the new year for travel industry players in view of the recent unfavourable market conditions.
As an added incentive for those buying their travel packages during the fair, there will be a buyer’s contest with many prizes offered by airlines such as Cathay Pacific, Egyptair, Gulf Air and Firefly.
Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim will be launching Masum 2010.
The Selangor state government is supporting the event through Tourism Selangor and will feature an extensive range of Selangor tourism products during the fair.
Kay said although the available booths were limited, potential exhibitors could still log on to www.masum.com.my to register online.
Interested parties can also call the Matta Selangor Secretariat at 019-632 7724 or email secretariat.selangor@matta.org.my for further details.
The event is supported by the Selangor State Tourism Action Council in collaboration with Shah Alam City Council and endorsed by the Saudi Arabian embassy.
Among sponsors are PKNS, SACC Convention Centre, Cathay Pacific, Egyptair, Gulf Air, Firefly Airlines and Virtual Malaysia.
