MBPJ to set up counters to collect assessment
THE Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will set up counters at specific areas in the city to encourage the public to settle their assessment promptly.
During the Assessment Payment Campaign week that starts today, payment counters will be set up at the public hall, Apartment Harmoni, PJU10/4C, Damansara Damai.
The counters will open from noon to 8pm from Monday to Friday and from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
More payment counters will be set up at the lobby of Sunway Giza commercial centre in PJU5 on Nov 24 and 25 from 11am to 6pm and lobby of Tropicana City Mall shopping centre (in front of Princess Boutique) on Dec 4 and 5 from 1am to 6pm.
Deputy mayor Puasa Md Taib urged the public to settle the payments promptly to facilitate the council in delivering good service.
He said special counters would open in Damansara Damai because the area topped the chart in arrears.
“Of the 4,652 warrants issued involving RM19.78mil in total, 1,260 (RM3.25mil) or 27% came from Damansara Damai. This is followed by PJS 1 to 5,” he said.
He also said the council would confiscate assets if the ratepayer still failed to settle the assessment seven days after receiving the detention warrant.
The assets will be auctioned off to settle the arrears.
He said the total arrears for the second-term of the year amounted to RM33mil, of which RM15mil had been collected so far. Arrears from last year hit RM30mil and RM18mil was collected.
The largest sum of arrears of RM402,607 involves an office complex while the longest owing period reached 31 years, which involves a single-storey bungalow.
