Pool ideas to promote Islamic finance, says MB
LANGKAWI: Ulama, academicians and professionals should come together to share their knowledge to develop better understanding of the Islamic finance and economics.
Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak said the Langkawi Islamic Finance and Economics (Life) International Conference organised by the Kolej Universiti Insaniah (Kuin) was one such platform that could be used to garner ideas for the purpose.
“This conference provides a setting for the ulama, academicians and professionals to share ideas and find ways to promote Islamic finance to the world,” he said after opening the second Life conference.
Some 200 participants from several countries took part in the conference yesterday jointly organised by Kuin and Jeddah’s Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) that would end tomorrow.
Azizan said former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is the Perdana Leadership Foundation president, would close the conference tomorrow.
Tun Mahathir will be honoured as the permanent Life patron and he will also receive the first Insaniah-IRTI Life award for his involvement in promoting Islamic finance and banking globally.
International Development Bank Jeddah president Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Mohamed Ali said that the conference could be used to support development programmes that promote Islamic social welfare schemes to the community.
