Plastic making factory damaged in fire

PASIR GUDANG: A large store at a plastic making factory was badly damaged in a fire, which caused parts of the structure to collapse.
Despite heavy rains, thick black smoke could be seen emerging from the building, which had caught fire at around 1.14pm last Thursday.
Johor Fire and Rescue Department Centre operation officer Marzuki Ismail said it took seven fire engines and 61 firemen to put out the fire that lasted for about half-an- hour.
Under control: Firemen trying to control the fire that broke out at the plastic factory. “We received a distress call from an employee relating to the fire and reached the premises at around 1.20pm,” he said, adding that the firemen were deployed from Pasir Gudang, Johor Baru and Johor Jaya.
He added that about 20 workers were inside the factory during the fire but none of them were injured during the incident.
“Although we managed to control the fire from spreading to the main factory, a lot of the plastic material that were stored in the area were badly damaged.
He also said that the department was still investigating the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile the company manager, Frankie Loh said that this was the second time a fire had broken out in the factory since it started operations in 1996.
He was thankful none of his workers were injured during the incident.
