WOW Carnival

THE annual Wow! Putrajaya Carnival is back this weekend at the lake side in Precinct 2 themed as Green Federal Territory. There will be luxury car exhibitions, tattoo shows, art and cultural performances, and lucky draws, karaoke, photography and futsal competitions. New activities includes Formula 1 Simulator Championship, “Master Gardener” Mega, artists corner, creative costume competition for the family, pumpkin-based cooking competition, ‘Crazy Chef’ competition, hot dog eating competition, and a bid to break the Malaysia Book of Records for Putrajaya Inter Parks Ride. Local artists M. Nasir, Ramli Sarip, Ella, Meet Uncle Hussein, Hazama and Stacy will be performing on Feb 25. The closing ceremony for the Federal Territory Day celebrations will also be held during the carnival on Feb 26. Admission is free from 9am to midnight on Feb 25, and 9am to 6pm on Feb 26. BARITONE Concert

BE spellbound with great baritone arias when the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) performs this weekend. These concerts are slated under the MPO Specials series and will be conducted by Karen Kamensek who once led the MPO in 2009. The MPO will perform Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Thomas’ Mignon Overture and Massenet’s exotic Le Cid Ballet Music. Other works included in the repertoire list are Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Borodin’s Prince Igor, and Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman and Tannhäuser. These showcases will feature Canadian bass-baritone Philippe Sly who has performed with the San Francisco Opera, Montreal Symphony Orchestra and Canadian Chamber Players. VALENTINE’S DAY

IN conjunction with Valentine’s Day, Popular@ IPC Shopping Centre (IKANO) and Popular @ Sunway Pyramid will be hosting a series of fun-filled yet educational activities this weekend. The activities are ‘Magic Bread House’ bread-baking demonstration by chef Elisabeth Siahaja; ‘Heart for Your Loved Ones’ painting session and ‘Friendship Card for Your Lovely Friend’ card design contest for children aged between six and 12-years-old; and ‘Super Yoga Kids ­‑ Fun with Family Yoga session by Malaysian Association of Yoga Instructors. Charity Bazaar

Health Screening

Folks in Pandan Indah can get a free health screening the Axis Atrium in Ampang organised by Kelab Belia Pandan this weekend. The event is a collaboration with the Health Promotion Board of Malaysia (My Sihat), 1Malaysia Community Alliance Foundation. There will be breast cancer screening, healthy cooking demonstrations, fitness talks, physical fitness consultation and free product samples. The public can receive Free Health Screenings from 10am to 2 pm on both dates. The screening includes Elcdy Mese Index (BMI), Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar Screening and De-worming (for children). A blood donation drive will also be conducted from 10am to 5pm. Visitors also stand a chance to win an iPhone4 through the lucky draws.
