Access to reading materials
SOME 200 students with multiple learning disabilities will get a chance to improve and practise their reading skills thanks to the RM6,000 donations from Escatec Electronics Sdn. Bhd and MPH Bookstores.
The donations were given to SMK Jelutong, SMK Padang Polo and SMK Teluk Kumbar 2 with each school receiving RM2,000 in cash which can be redeemed for books at the MPH.
Head of Special and Private Education Datuk Mohd Nazari Yaakob said by 2013, there would be more classes in schools catered for students with learning disabilities, which could only happen if parents were involved.
“Parents should not be ashamed to let their kids go for medical checkup if they suspect that their children are having learning disabilities,” he said during a press conference at SMK Jelutong in Penang.
Escatec Electronics Human Resource manager Luwe Chin Kei hoped that the contribution would encourage more students to read.
Also present were MPH Corporate & Library Services Division manager Wong Hin Chow, students and representatives from each school.
