SINGAPOREAN Edmund Sim has made it a hat-trick of sorts with his latest win at Ipoh Starwalk 2012.

The 29-year-old IT consultant won the newly introduced Men’s International category with a time of 46.42s.

Sim was the champion in the Men’s Open category in Ipoh Starwalk last year and in 2010.

“I was quite surprised to learn that I have won because there were two others that had crossed the line before me.

“I think both were disqualified but they were really fast,” he said after receiving his prize of RM2,000 cash, a certificate and a trophy.

Sim said he had just recovered from a knee injury last month after competing in another event in Singapore but managed to slog it out with the other competitors.

Victorious trio: Sim flanked by second place winner Back, 46, (left) and third place winner Nasri, 33, after receiving their prizes.

“I am quite happy with my timing given the circumstances,” he said, adding that the prize money for the category was attractive.

In second spot was Australian Peter James Back who clocked 59:20s while Nasri Yahya, from Kuala Lumpur, came in third, clocking 1:07:24s.

In the Women’s International category, Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) student Song Gie Chee clocked 57:39s to clinch the top spot.

The 20-year-old Penangite said her friends urged her to sign up for the category to challenge herself.

“I had planned to enter the Women’s Open category at first, but my friends told me that the prize for the International category was much bettter, so I decided to give it a try,” added Song who had previously won first prize in the Girl’s category in 2009.

She, however, was not happy with the timing and felt she could have done better.

“I think I will come back next year to outdo myself,” she said.

Coming in second and third respectively in the category were Chang Meei Lee (1:13:56s) and Lim Phaik Siew (1:17:09s).
